IAW South Africa: 50 Years Since Sharpeville, 1 Year Since Gaza
As South Africans who took strength from the international campaign against Apartheid we persist in condemning Israel's actions by declaring "Apartheid for one is apartheid for all!". As students of post-Apartheid South Africa, and as beneficiaries of a liberation struggle against racism, sexism and exploitation, we stand with all those still engaged in struggle to liberate themselves from racism, apartheid and injustice. For these reasons, South African organisations form part of the international campaign to pressurise the state of Israel with boycotts, divestment and sanctions.

Several South African cities will be participating in IAW this year, with the key event being a public protest at the Israeli Embassy in Pretoria, on Friday the 5th of March 2010. The aim of IAW is to explain the apartheid structure of Israel and to build Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaigns as part of a growing global BDS movement. Applying pressure through boycotts, like was done to Apartheid South Africa, is an urgently needed form of solidarity that can bring about Israel's compliance with international law and the requirements for a just peace.
Join us on Friday, as we, together with the international community, condemn the Apartheid State of Israel!
COORDINATED BY THE COALITION FOR A FREE PALESTINE
Some of the South African IAW events, including the protest march at the Israeli Embassy, have been convened by a number of local organisations ranging from Palestinian solidarity, trade union and political groups to human rights and student organisations which have come together to form a united solidarity front in South Africa, the Coalition for a Free Palestine.
